Health Department to Begin Walk-In Flu Vaccinations

Starting Monday, September 29, flu vaccines will be available on a walk-in basis—no appointment necessary—Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the DeKalb County Health Department. Flu shots are available for adults and children aged 6 months and older.

“Getting your annual flu shot is one of the most effective steps you can take to avoid getting sick, reduce the severity of illness if you do catch the flu, and help protect vulnerable members of our community,” said Lisa Gonzalez, Public Health Administrator.

Last week, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) released updated, evidence-based guidance for the flu and RSV vaccines for Illinois residents. These guidelines emphasize the importance of seasonal flu vaccination, especially as circulating viruses can change each year.

Even if you do catch the flu after being vaccinated, research shows the vaccine can reduce the severity of symptoms and lower the risk of hospitalization.

Help Prevent the Flu:

  • Get your annual flu vaccine.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap is unavailable.
  • Disinfect commonly touched surfaces regularly.
  • Practice good hygiene: Cough or sneeze into your elbow, avoid close contact with sick individuals, and stay home for at least 24 hours after a fever subsides.

A parent or guardian must accompany individuals under 18 years of age. Most PPO insurance plans, Medicaid, and Medicare Part B are accepted with no cost to the client. Please bring all insurance cards and a photo ID. We are a Vaccine for Children (VFC) Provider.
